A Clinton woman who allegedly was helping a man sell a controlled substance out of her house, where a Clinton Police officer was shot to death on March 6, has been charged with murder.
According to a probable-cause statement, officer Christopher Ryan Morton was shot and killed by James Waters at a residence in the 300 block of West Grandriver Street. Two other officers were wounded during the shoot-out. Waters later was found dead inside the residence.
The Highway Patrol executed a search warrant and reportedly located a purse with 37-year-old Tammy Widger’s identification, along with marijuana, methamphetamine and pills all packaged separately. During her interview, Widger reportedly told authorities that she was assisting Waters with distribution of methamphetamine in exchange for him paying her bills.
Online court documents say Widger has been charged with a Class A Felony for Murder in the Second Degree. Bond has been set at $100,000 cash only. Widger also has been charged with a Class C Felony for Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Except 35 Grams or Less of Marijuana or Synthetic Cannabinoid and a Class E Felony for Keeping or Maintaining a Nuisance. Bond for those charges has been set at $25,000 cash or surety.
Widger, who was arraigned earlier this month and reportedly pleaded not guilty, is due for a criminal-setting hearing at 9 a.m. on Friday, April 6, at Henry County Circuit Court.
