Saline County Presiding Commissioner Kile Guthrey Jr. clarified his asking for donations for the cemeteries’ fund during a meeting of the commission on Thursday, March 15.
Guthrey said he has been asked by several people if Saline County has a cemetery.

Guthrey said having the fund allows the county to accept donations of funds, manpower and/or equipment to clean up abandoned cemeteries in the county. He said commissioners think it could be good for those who have been ordered to perform community service. He said there have been donations made, and they do have some money in the fund for the project.

Commissioners pointed out all money going to this project is from donations received. No taxpayer money is being used.
At an earlier meeting, Guthrey pointed out the first cemetery cleaning project is tentatively scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 21, in Nelson. According to commissioners, there are a few hundred abandoned cemeteries in the county.
