Several Saline County residents were injured in a traffic crash involving a tractor trailer in Lafayette County on Saturday.
According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred as an eastbound vehicle, driven by 18-year-old Santiago Alvarez-Ansola, of Marshall, reportedly traveled off the left side of the roadway, struck and traveled though guard cables. The vehicle then traveled into the westbound lanes and struck a Freighliner, driven by 34-year-old Verenda Garcia, of Florissant.
Alvarez reportedly sustained minor injures, and his passengers from Marshall, 23-year-old Ronny Castro, sustained serious injures and 18-year-old Alec Mendez sustained moderate. They reportedly were transported by E.M.S to Centerpoint Hospital in Independence for treatment, where Garcia was transported to Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg for treatment of minor injures.
The crash happened just before 4 a.m. near the 50 mile marker on I-70.
