The Saline County Sheriff’s Department is investigating after a man reportedly shot himself during law enforcement’s attempt to apprehend him on Monday, April 9.
According to a release from Sheriff Cindi Mullins, at approximately 6:30 p.m., the department was notified of a suspicious person near the intersection of Neon Avenue and 260th Road.
Deputies responded to the area and made contact with a 43-year-old male. During the subsequent investigation, it was determined the vehicle the subject was operating had been reported stolen out of Arnold.
When deputies were attempting to apprehend the subject, he reportedly retrieved a firearm that was concealed on his person and shot himself.
Deputies immediately called for an ambulance and began lifesaving interventions.
The male, whose name is not being released by authorities at this time, ultimately was flown to the University Hospital in Columbia for further treatment.
