While most of the attention was placed on the contested races for area city councils, boards of aldermen and other boards during last week’s Municipal Election, several seats up for vote came down to write-in candidates.
According to a release from Saline County Clerk Debbie Russell, certification of the election results were held on Friday, April 6.
According to the numbers, receiving 17 write-in votes and elected as Malta Bend Mayor was Alice Rhea. No other write-in candidate received more than two votes. Also, Skyler Moore and Allen Clemons were elected as Aldermen.
Dr. Stephen Allegri was elected to another term as Slater’s Mayor; and Jason Weiker, Jake Brumit, Brett Hemeyer and Cathie Jeffries as councilpersons– all of whom were running unopposed.
In Sweet Springs, aldermen Rodney Heaper and Larry Looney, who were running unopposed, were reelected.
Running unopposed, and elected to the Board of Aldermen in Nelson were Richard Clause and Ellwood Waller.
Denise Ward and Elise Martens, who were on the ballot, and Derrick Arnold, who received 17 of the 21 write-in votes, were elected to the city of Miami’s board.
The three candidates– Herbert Richtermeyer, Beverly Richtermeyer and Joyce Dambacher– were elected to board positions in the Village of Grand Pass. Tim Thorp received seven write-in votes, and was elected as Grand Pass Special Road District Commissioner.
Evonne Trelow and Merle Trelow were elected to the Mount Leonard Board of Trustees via the write-in process for two-year terms. And Rick Wagner received the nod as a write-in candidate for same board for a one-year term.
Martha Fiene and Florence Wilson were elected to the Board of Aldermen in Blackburn.
Clayton Deis received five write-in votes and was elected as the Commissioner for the Gilliam Special Road District.
In voting that stretched over some Saline and Cooper County residents, elected to the Blackwater R-2 School Board were Amanda Green Blank (44 votes), Stephanie Schuster-Day (41) and Erica Sims (21); and Ryan Watring and Travis Fenical to the Blackwater Fire District Board.
