During the meeting of the Marshall City Council on Monday, April 16, Mayor Mark Gooden proposed some changes to the committees the councilmen serve.
Gooden said our city hires department heads, a city administrator and staff to carry out the day-to-day operations, and we need to let them do their jobs. We are called to assist, if necessary. He said each person on the council is able to do the job on each of the four committees.
After he read his recommendation, most councilmen spoke up, not being in favor of some of the changes. Some said they would like to keep the appointments as they are.
Gooden said one of the reasons why he proposed the changes is to spread around the work and give the other guys the responsibilities who have the qualifications to do the work.
Ward 2 Councilman Kirk Arends said he’s disappointed in the proposed changes due to the progress that’s been made.
After hearing input from all councilmen, Gooden pulled back his recommended changes and will reconsider them. He said he will announce the appointments at a meeting sometime in May.
