During the meeting of the Marshall City Council on Monday, April 16, Ward 1 Councilman Ron Ott said he is happy the city has entered into a contract with Buxton Company for the purpose of developing strategies that will enable the city to recruit new retailers while retaining the city’s current retailers.
Ott said the council still is working hard on getting a grocery store to come to town, and with the help of Buxton’s research and numbers crunching, it will hopefully make it easier.
Ott says, with that information in hand, the city can go to the grocery companies and not just tell them it’s a good deal, but have data to back it up.
Ott says the city is working closely with a company that is interested in coming to Marshall.
The contract with Buxton calls for the city to pay $50,000 per year for three years. But there is a clause in the agreement that allows the city to opt out at the end of any year if funds are not available in the city’s budget.
