The Saline County Health Department Board of Trustees discussed growing fresh produce in a community garden during its meeting on Tuesday, April 24.
Administrator Tara Brewer said the topic of starting a community garden was brought up during a recent celebration for the health department.

Brewer added the department with help from other organizations have developed two gardens to begin with.

Brewer said the gardens are in the beginning stages with produce to come later this year.
In other news, Brewer said Jim Steinmetz was elected as president of the board. Also, the board approved the addition of a parking lot on the north side of the health department building, as well as began discussions on installing a walking track inside the building.
