The Prescription Drug Take-Back event held in Boone County on April 27 and 28 resulted in the third-largest collection of unwanted and/or no-longer-needed medications since this event began locally in 2010.
According to a news release, the largest local collection was last October with 972 pounds collected, followed by April of 2016 with 895 pounds collected.
There were seven different collection sites spread throughout the county for the event, which coincided with the Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Drug Take-Back event– resulting in 826.2 pounds being collected. The results per collection site were:
VA Hospital – Columbia – 197 pounds; University of Mo. Student Center – 23 pounds; Hickman High School – 239.2 pounds; Rock Bridge High School – 185.2 pounds; Ashland Police Department- 59.2 pounds; Centralia Police Department – 65.6 pounds; and Hallsville Police Department – 57 pounds
All medications collected will be turned over to the DEA for proper disposal.
