A Sedalia man has been charged with felonies for allegedly stealing a vehicle and a firearm during an incident last week in Pettis County.
A probable-cause statement says Sedalia Police officers responded to a report of a theft at a residence in the 1100 block of East Broadway Boulevard on May 3. The victim stated he received a call from a family member stating his truck was missing, and later noticed a 9MM pistol and ammunition also was missing after he returned to the residence. The victim said 24-year-old Jamie Martinez was at the residence when he left, but wasn’t there after the items went missing.
During the investigation, officers found the stolen truck at Martinez’s residence, who was found outside sleeping in a chair with open containers of alcohol on the ground and the stolen ammunition nearby. Martinez said he gave the stolen gun to an individual earlier that day, but couldn’t recall other specifics about the incident.
Online court documents say Martinez has been charged with two class D Felonies for Tampering with a Motor Vehicle in the First Degree and Stealing of a Firearm, as well as driving and drug-related misdemeanors. Bond was set at $15,000 cash or surety.
Martinez’s initial hearing at Pettis County Circuit Court is pending.
