A Columbia resident who had been banned from entering any Walmart store earlier this year has been charged with a felony for allegedly attempting to steal from Walmart in Marshall on May 9.
According to a probable-cause statement, Ian Anthony Sims was confronted by a Walmart employee beyond the final point of sale at the exit of the garden center. Sims reportedly fled on foot and eventually was located by police with the help of a K-9 near the 1500 block of West College Street and taken into custody.
A scan of the items in the cart Sims was pushing reportedly totaled nearly $450.
According to online court documents, Sims has been charged with a Class B Felony for Burglary in the First Degree and a misdemeanor for stealing. Bond has been fixed at $15,000 cash only, with several conditions, including he is to wear a GPS monitoring device upon release.
Sims was arraigned while in custody on May 10, and his cause has been continued for a counsel-status hearing at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, May 16, at Saline County Circuit Court.
