A New Franklin man faces a felony charge for assaulting a police officer during an incident last month in Howard County.
A probable-cause statement says on the 28th of May, New Franklin Police officers arrived at the residence of 27-year-old Christopher Pool to serve a warrant. Another resident of the home answered the door and stated Pool was in the bathroom. After getting permission to enter, officers commanded Pool to come out of the bathroom, which garnered no response from Pool. According to the report, as the officers approached the door, Pool jumped out and began hitting one of the officers.
It was also reported that during the altercation, Pool struck the officer in the face with his fist several times and stopped after the other officer threatened to use pepper spray. Pool was transported to Howard County Jail where he threatened to kill the officers and struck another officer in the face while being confined to a restraining chair.
Online court documents say Pool has been charged with a Class A Felony for Assault in the First Degree-Causing Injury to a Special Victim. Bond has been set at $50,000 cash only.
Pool was arraigned on these charges on May 31. His case has been set for a counsel-status hearing at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, June 12, at Howard County Circuit Court.
