A Slater man has been charged with sex-related felonies involving a juvenile in Saline County.
According to a probable-cause statement, 51-year-old Larry Wayne Powers was required to register as a sex offender in Saline County after being convicted of second-degree sexual assault in 1992. On April 10, 2018, Powers appeared for his 90-registration which required him to provide phone numbers and other ways of communication such as social media he uses.
During an investigation, Powers reportedly provided a cell phone number and e-mail address he no longer uses, as well as failed to register multiple social media sites he used to communicate with others. Powers reportedly admitted to authorities of the failure to provide proper sex-offender registration information. Powers also detailed sexual encounters with a 15-year-old victim which occurred in February and March 2018. Powers also admitted to authorities that he provided the victim with alcoholic beverages, as well as received nude photos from the victim on an unregistered phone.
Online court documents say Powers has been charged with two counts of an Unclassified Felony for Sodomy or Attempted Sodomy in the First Degree and a Class E Felony for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender. Bond has been set at $200,000 cash only.
Powers’ arraignment is scheduled at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, June 6, at Saline County Circuit Court is pending.
