A Slater man charged with sex-related felonies involving a juvenile, appeared for his arraignment hearing earlier this week in Saline County.
Online court documents say on June 6, 51-year-old Larry Wayne Powers appeared in custody via video and waived his formal arraignment hearing. Powers acknowledged the charges against him and the range of punishment. Powers reportedly did not enter a plea.
A probable-cause statement says Powers admitted to authorities of the failure to provide proper sex-offender registration information including multiple social media sites he used to communicate with juveniles. Powers also detailed sexual encounters with a 15-year-old victim where he provided the victim with alcoholic beverages, as well as received nude photos from the victim on an unregistered phone in February and March 2018.
Online court documents also say Powers is facing two counts of an Unclassified Felony for Sodomy or Attempted Sodomy in the First Degree and a Class E Felony for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender. Bond has been set at $200,000 cash only.
Powers is scheduled to appear for a case-hearing at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, June 20, at Saline County Circuit Court.
