A 21-year-old Glasgow resident has been charged with two felonies for allegedly stealing a vehicle off a parking lot in Cooper County on May 29.
According to a probable-cause statement, a van owned by C&R Market in Boonville was stolen from its parking lot on Main Street. The vehicle had been left parked, with the keys in the ignition and doors unlocked.
Authorities viewed surveillance video which reportedly revealed James Simmons to be walking through the parking lot at the time, looking into windows and checking door handles of vehicles. The camera reportedly recorded Simmons walking near the C&R van, which was partially out of the frame; and immediately after James walked out of the frame, the C&R van was driven away.
The van reportedly was found hidden in a grove of trees off a rural roadway in Howard County on May 30.
According to online court documents, a warrant has been issued and Simmons has been charged with Class D Felonies for Stealing a Motor Vehicle and Tampering with a Motor Vehicle in the First Degree. Bond has been set at $7,500 cash or surety.
Simmons’ initial hearing at Cooper County Circuit Court is pending.
