Today is going to be another scorcher with actual temperatures predicted to be in the mid-90s and heat indices reaching triple digits, according to the National Weather Service.
According to a release from the Pettis County Sheriff’s Department and Cooper County Emergency Management Agency, the National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for every county in the KMMO listening area for today.
A Heat Advisory means the combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. You are urged to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions, if you work or spend time outside. If possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early-morning or evening hours.
If you have to be outside, you also are urged to wear loose-fitting clothing. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the occupational safety and health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
Heat stroke is an emergency, call 9-1-1.
