After a lot of hours of work by Gilliam Mayor Mindee Miller-Grimes, former Saline County Emergency Management Agency Director, the late Emmit Williams, and current director Tony Day, residents of the city of Gilliam now have an outdoor early-warning siren in place.
Gilliam City Councilman Gary Hibbard explained the city is out no money at all.

Hibbard said it took a while to determine where to place the pole for the multi-functional siren– which will allow instructions to be announced over a loud speaker in the event of bad weather. He said it then took KCP&L workers just a few hours to get everything set up on Thursday, June 14.

Hibbard said the city’s residents– listed at just under 200 as of the most-recent census– are elated about having the siren.
He said “And for it to not cost anything, that’s exceptional.”
