A court proceeding that was scheduled for Wednesday, June 20, for a 51-year-old Slater man charged with sex-related felonies involving a juvenile has been postponed to next week.
A probable-cause statement says Larry Wayne Powers admitted to authorities he failed to provide proper sex-offender registration information, including his use of multiple social-media sites to communicate with juveniles. Powers also detailed sexual encounters with a 15-year-old, during which he provided the victim with alcoholic beverages, as well as received nude photos from the victim on an unregistered phone in February and March 2018.
Online court documents say Powers, who was formally arraigned on June 6, has been charged with a Class E Felony for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender and two counts of an Unclassified Felony for Sodomy or Attempted Sodomy in the First Degree. Bond has been set at $200,000 cash only.
Powers, whose attorney has filed a motion to attempt to have his bond reduced, was scheduled to appear for a hearing at 9 a.m. Updated court documents say his next scheduled hearing is set for 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 27, at Saline County Circuit Court.
