A 51-year-old Slater man who has been charged with sex-related felonies involving a juvenile is due in court on Wednesday, June 27.
Online court documents say Larry Wayne Powers has been charged with a Class E Felony for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender and two counts of an Unclassified Felony for Sodomy or Attempted Sodomy in the First Degree. Bond has been set at $200,000 cash only.
A probable-cause statement says Powers admitted to authorities he failed to provide proper sex-offender registration information, including his use of multiple social-media sites to communicate with juveniles. Powers also detailed sexual encounters with a 15-year-old, including providing the teenager with alcoholic beverages, as well as receiving nude photos from the victim on an unregistered phone in February and March 2018.
Powers, who was formally arraigned on June 6 and whose attorney has filed a motion to attempt to have his bond reduced, is scheduled to appear for a motion hearing 10 a.m. at Saline County Circuit Court.
