Two police officers and four other persons were recognized at a council meeting for their efforts to help save a man’s life earlier this year.
According to a news release, on May 11, Lance Wilkinson was working out at CrossFit Believe in Warrensburg when he collapsed. His fellow cross fit athletes- United States Air Force pilots, Lt. Col. Jeremiah Parvin, Major Chad Carlton, Retired Marine Kelly Murphy and Aric Wasson- took charge of the scene. They worked together directing someone to call 9-1-1, another person to make room in the parking lot for the ambulance and someone to calm Wilkinson’s wife.
Parvin and Carlton took turns performing rescue breaths, while Murphy performed chest compressions. Officers Ronnie Catts and Eric Walker were dispatched to the call, and when they arrived, they connected their Automatic Electronic Defibrillator (AED) to Wilkinson and continued CPR until the ambulance crew arrived. Medical staff said the actions of all involved contributed to saving Wilkinson’s life.
For their life-saving actions, during the meeting of the Warrensburg City Council on Monday, June 25, Mayor Danielle Johnston, City Manager Harold Stewart and Police Chief Rich Lockhart presented the Life Saving Award to Catts and Walker. Johnston also commended publicly Parvin, Carlton, Murphy and Wasson for their quick actions to help save Wilkinson’s life.
