Multiple law-enforcement agencies executed a search warrant and took a man accused of murder into custody in Johnson County on Thursday, June 28.
According to a post on the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Independence Police Department Homicide Unit, Missouri Career Criminal Task Force, Warrensburg Police Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol with a murder-related investigation. During the investigation, a search warrant was obtained for a residence in the 500 block of SE Highway 13.
Johnson County Deputies, along with the Johnson County Joint Swat Team– consisting of members from the sheriff’s office, Warrensburg Police Department and members from the Johnson County Ambulance District– executed the search warrant.
During the search, detectives located and arrested 28-year-old Nathan Lee Ayers, of Blue Springs.
According to online court documents, a warrant was issued earlier on Thursday for the arrest of Ayers, who has been charged with a Class A Felony for First-Degree Murder and an Unclassified Felony for Armed Criminal Action. Bond has been set at $500,000.
Ayers’ initial hearing at Jackson County Circuit Court is pending.
