For a while now, green-colored slime has taken over big portions of the Marshall Habilitation Center Lake.
Now that the city of Marshall has taken over ownership of the entire 287-acre piece of property, the onus of getting it cleaned up lies with the city. During the meeting of the city council on Monday, the city took the first step in doing so.
Tom McRoberts, of C&M Wildlife Management, LLC, said the problem is not insurmountable.

McRoberts explained what his agency will do to help with vegetation control.

McRoberts said grass carp aren’t a good idea for the lake because of all of the things they eat besides vegetation. And he said the treatment of the lake will not hinder anybody wanting to fish at the lake.
McRoberts said as long as there are nutrients running into the lake, treatments will be needed annually.
After hearing his presentation, the council voted unanimously to have the lake treated. It will cost the city $800 per treatment or $3,200 for this year. He said treatments could start as early as later on this week.
