Traffic crashes claimed three lives on Missouri roadways, and two drownings were reported during the 2018 Independence Day Holiday counting period.
According to a release from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, during the counting period of 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 3, through 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4, the patrol investigated 114 traffic crashes, which included 59 injuries and the three fatalities. Troopers also arrested 40 people for driving while intoxicated and made 38 drug arrests.
Of the three traffic-crash fatalities investigated by the Patrol, one occurred in the Troop G, Willow Springs, area, and the others in the Troop A, Kansas City, MO, area.
In 2017, 14 people were killed and 186 were injured over the holiday in 494 traffic crashes, with 118 drug arrests.
Marine operations troopers investigated two drowning fatalities, one in Madison County and the other in Camden County. Troopers also investigated five boating crashes, which included two injuries, as well as arrested three boaters for boating while intoxicated and made eight drug arrests.
There were zero boating and drowning fatalities over the 2017 Independence Holiday weekend.
