Two Iowa residents were killed in a traffic crash on I-70 in Cooper County on Thursday.
According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred as the driver of an eastbound vehicle, 45-year-old James Smith, of Benton, IA, reportedly was slowing to a stop due to a prior traffic accident. Another eastbound vehicle, driven by 66-year-old Thomas See, of Grandview, reportedly failed to noticed the slowing traffic and struck the rear of Smith’s vehicle. The Smith vehicle then traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a vehicle which was parked and unoccupied.
Smith and occupant, 45-year-old Jody Smith, of Boone, IA, each were pronounced deceased at the scene by Cooper County Cornor James Hurt at 9:38 a.m. See and four other occupants in his vehicle, including two juveniles, were all transported by ambulance to Cooper County Memorial Hospital in Boonville for treatment of minor injures.
The crash happened just after 9:30 a.m. at the 91.6 mile marker of I-70.
