Area first responders and the Sedalia 200 School District will conduct a training exercise from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Monday, July 9, at Smith-Cotton High School.
According to a news release, the practice exercise will consist of a simulated scenario to facilitate a coordinated response to a fictitious active-shooter event.
Direct participants from eight agencies will include– the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office; Sedalia Police Department; Missouri State Highway Patrol; Sedalia Fire Department; Pettis County Ambulance District; Pettis County Fire District; the Sedalia-Pettis County Emergency Management Agency; and representatives from the school district.
This exercise is designed to expand levels of multi-agency cooperation, strengthen mutual capabilities and enhance school security and communication.
Authorities say residents should expect to see several emergency-response vehicles, as well as other related activity in the area of the high school during the exercise. They also say residents may hear sirens and blank rounds being fired from simulated weapons and may see role players evacuating the campus.
