A Concordia man is facing felony charges after an alleged domestic assault incident recently in Lafayette County.
A probable-cause statement says a Concordia Police officer was dispatched to a report of a domestic disturbance at an apartment on 9th Street on July 6. A female victim stated she was physically assaulted by 20-year-old Gabriel Cox. The victim was noticed to have bruising on the left side of her face.
The officer went towards the apartment room where the alleged assault took place and spoke with Cox. The officer noticed the strong odor of marijuana emanating from Cox and began to apprehend him. Cox reportedly resisted arrested and tried to grab the officer’s duty weapon, but was eventually apprehended. A probable-cause search of the apartment rendered approximately 100 grams of marijuana and 20 liquid THC cartages.
Online court documents say Cox has been charged with a Class C Felony for Delivery of a Controlled Substance and a Class D Felony for Possession of a Controlled Substance, as well as three misdemeanors, two for assault and one for resisting arrest. Bond was set at $25,000 cash or surety.
Cox was formally arraigned and entered a plea of not guilty on July 6, and his caused was continued for a case-hearing at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 8, at Lafayette County Circuit Court.
