A Walmart employee has been charged with a felony for allegedly stealing money out of a wallet that was accidentally left in the store in Marshall by a shopper on July 1.
According to a probable-cause statement, surveillance video reportedly shows Joanna M. Young, of Nelson, picked up the wallet and took it to the family bathrooms at the back of the store. Several minutes later, she clocked out for break and went to the parking lot. However, she reportedly passed her vehicle and placed the wallet in a cart to be retrieved by another employee. Young reportedly returned to the store to continue cashiering.
The alleged victim told authorities the majority of the approximately $1,250 was missing when she later picked up the wallet at the service desk.
According to online court documents, a warrant has been issued and Young has been charged with a Class D Felony for Stealing of $750 or More. Bond has been set at $7,500 cash or surety, with a condition that she is not have any contact with the alleged victim.
Young’s initial hearing at Saline County Circuit Court is pending.
