A Bates City man who was charged with multiple felonies for allegedly stabbing a man last year in Lafayette County was in court earlier this month and changed his plea to amended charges.
Online court documents say Michael Alexander, now 45, was charged with a Class A Felony for Assault in the First Degree, Causing Serious Physical Injury; a Class E Felony for Unlawful Use of a Weapon; and an Unclassified Felony for Armed Criminal Action.
Alexander, who entered a plea of not guilty during his arraignment hearing on August 10, 2017, pleaded guilty to a Class D Felony for Assault in the Second Degree and a Class E Felony for Unlawful Use of a Weapon. Per the plea agreement, the other charge was dropped by the court during a hearing on July 16.
A jury trial for Alexander that was set to begin at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, July 30, has been canceled.
Alexander’s sentencing hearing is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, September 4, at Lafayette County Circuit Court.
