A Marshall woman has been charged with a felony for allegedly consuming illegal drugs and then breastfeeding her daughter- thus passing on the illegal drugs to the infant.
According to a probable-cause statement, the father took the baby to an independent laboratory for testing on May 25, and testing of the child’s hair came back positive for the presence of cannabinoids/THC.
According to online court documents, a warrant has been issued and Melissa Kay Jennings has been charged with a Class D Felony for Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Creating a Substantial Risk in the First Degree- No Sexual Conduct. Bond has been set at $7,500 cash or surety- or 10-percent approved- with special unspecified conditions.
Jennings’ initial hearing at Saline County Circuit Court is pending.
