A Sedalia man has been charged with a felony for allegedly brandishing a knife at motorists this week in Pettis County.
A probable-cause statement says on July 24, Sedalia Police officers responded to a report of a man armed with butcher knife walking in the roadway near 32nd Street and South Grand Avenue. The officers identified the man as 47-year-old Dennis Ware Jr., who reportedly has psychological disorders.
The officers noticed Ware to be severely impaired by something and commanded him to drop the knife several times. After the commands ended with negative results, the officers ask him what he intended to do with the knife, and Ware reportedly responded ” to kill people”. An officer then deployed his taser gun and Ware was appended. After the arrest, officers spoke with one of the reporting parties who stated Ware was staggering in the street and made “non-aggressive stabbing motions” at several passing vehicles.
Online court documents say Ware has been charged with a Class E Felony for Unlawful Use of a Weapon-Exhibiting. Bond was set at $2,500 cash or surety.
Ware’s initial hearing at Pettis County Circuit Court is pending.
