A Sedalia teenager has been charged with multiple felonies for an alleged armed robbery which occurred at a cemetery in Pettis County on August 8.
A probable-cause statement says a victim spoke with the Pettis County Sheriff’s Department and stated he was robbed at gunpoint by 17-year-old Trenton Leary, while visiting a grave at the Smithton City Cemetery. Leary allegedly stole $1,200 in cash while pointing a semiautomatic pistol at the victim.
The victim said a brief altercation with Leary occurred after he took the money, where Leary reportedly discharged the firearm twice in the direction of the victim. The victim then fled the scene unharmed. Witnesses to the altercation told authorities the same story as the victim, but stated Leary was only trying to scare the victim.
Online court documents say Leary has been charged with two counts of a Class B Felony for Unlawful Use of a Weapon- Shooting at a Person; a Class A Felony for First-Degree Robbery; an Unclassified Felony for Armed Criminal Action; a Class D Felony for Second-Degree Assault; and a Class E Felony for Unlawful Use of a Weapon-Exhibiting. Bond has been set at $200,000 cash or surety.
Leary’s initial hearing at Pettis County Circuit Court is pending.
