The Sweet Springs School Board set the tax-levy rate and senior class trip date during its meeting on Thursday, August 24.
According to the minutes, Superintendent Lori Price presented the board with current assessed valuation and information regarding the tax-rate ceiling. Price said the State Auditor’s Office and the district’s financial advisor recommended the board set the tax-levy rate at $3.8737 per $100 of assessed valuation of real and personal property. The board approved the recommended 2018-19 tax-levy rate.
Also during the meeting, the board discussed the ongoing matter of the senior class trip regarding liability concerns over the past few years. Board members reviewed 33 surveys from parents and students on the subject, as well as discussed the pros and cons of having the trip take place in-state or out-of-state. The board ultimately decided to have the senior class trip continue as is.
High School Principal Josh Hume said a scheduling conflict arose with the senior class trip and prom. The board then voted to schedule the senior trip for March 14-18, 2019, and prom on April 13, 2019.
