The Cooper County Emergency Management Agency announced the implementation of a new feature regarding residents receiving emergency notifications by phone.
According to a news release, Cooper County EMA will now be sending out emergency warning calls to residents with landline phones in an effort to increase the notifications of confirmed emergency conditions that have the potential to be life threatening.
These warnings will come out when issued by the National Weather Service for the following emergency situations: earthquake warnings; severe thunderstorm warnings; tornado warnings; winter storm warnings; and other life threatening warnings.
When these warnings are issued, residents with landline phones will be called and when answered, the warning will come as a computerized voice that will give information about the expected hazard. Residents are advised not call 911 when receiving these messages as its a service to the citizens of the county.
