The Slater City Council discussed a recent power outage which affected most of the city during its meeting on Tuesday, September 5.
Mayor Dr. Stephen Allegri said several residents were upset with the timeliness of getting the power restored. Allegri gave his thanks to those who worked in the elements as fast as they could to fix the outage as more problem arose after that.
Allegri also gave his thanks to those residents who provided food and water to the workers and other residents in need.
City Administrator Gene Griffith said the power outage occurred as an underground electric line, which was two inches in diameter, had caught fire and flames were coming from the ground.
Griffith added crews began searching for the source of more problems which arose after rerouting power from the damaged line.
Griffith said this power outage incident was rare and wished it could have been fixed quicker, but sometimes its difficult to fix a problem as more pop up during certain weather situations or “acts of God”.
