The Missouri Department of Transportation is urging motorists to be cautious this weekend due to heavy rain predicted in the KMMO listening area.
According to MoDOT, Central District Engineer David Silvester says even if a road is not flooded, motorists are advised to use extra caution when driving on wet roads. Silvester added traffic crashes increase when wet weather hits, and it’s important for drivers to allow extra time for traveling and follow the rules of the road.
MoDOT says the following driving tips can help motorists in unsafe conditions during rainy weather: Slow down and use caution to avoid hydroplaning; Leave plenty of following distance; Turn on your headlights if windshield wipers are in use; and if a road is covered in water and is not closed off, do NOT drive through it and notify MoDOT or local law enforcement.
Motorists also can get up-to-date road conditions from MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map at www.modot.org or by calling 1-888-ASK-MODOT.
