A Fayette man and woman who allegedly were living in another person’s cabin without permission have been charged with a felony in Howard County.
According to a probable-cause statement, on August 20, the owner of the cabin near Davis Lake reported to authorities that some items from the cabin were missing, other items had been broken and the electricity was on, with the bill being run up to nearly $60. The items missing were valued by the owner at more than $1,700. Damage was estimated at $800. Authorities told the owner they had been called to the cabin for a domestic dispute on August 6. Authorities say the woman at the cabin told them that she was the granddaughter of the owner of the cabin, but the owner says he has only one granddaughter, and she is only 15 years old. The property owner said he did not know either person.
According to online court documents, criminal summonses have been issued and Melinda Ann Morris, who was born in 1973, and Jerrod Andrew Morris, who was born in 1971, have been charged with a Class D Felony for Burglary in the Second Degree.
An initial appearance for each of the accused is set for 9 a.m. on Tuesday, September 25, at Howard County Circuit Court.
