The MMU Board of Public Works discussed the request to seek bids for the replacement of heavy equipment during its meeting on Thursday, September 13.
Underground Facilities Director Grant Piper said a mini excavator and a skid steer his department utilizes, as well as other departments, are beginning to break down more frequently due to their high usage over the years.
Piper said the parts to fix the mini excavator are getting harder to find due to its age.

Piper said the skid steer also has its problems, and both of the machines would be traded or sold to help purchase the new equipment. The board approved the request to seek bids for the new equipment.
In other business, Electric Distribution Director Jeff Bergstrom said the installation of the new AMI electric meters for customers is about 60 percent finished, and the last shipment of meters is scheduled to be delivered later this month.
