A Sedalia teen has been charged with felonies for allegedly assaulting a victim during a recent incident in Pettis County.
A probable-cause statement says Sedalia Police officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at a residence in the 500 block of East 2nd Street on September 16. Upon arrival, the officers contacted a male victim in front of the residence and was noticed to have blood coming through a sock on his right foot and other noticeable injuries. 17-year-old Chance Cox spoke with the officers and stated the victim got in his face, so he hit him and a physical fight ensued. Cox reportedly told the officers to arrest him, but during his apprehension, Cox allegedly clenched his fist and swung at the officers.
After detaining Cox, officers spoke with witnesses who stated Cox allegedly assaulted the victim by hitting him with a crutch, stuck him in the face with a closed fist and put him in a choke hold. Cox reportedly admitted to the assault and said he sustained injuries too, but officers reportedly did not notice any injuries.
Online court documents say Cox has been charged with a Class D Felony for Domestic Assault in the Second Degree; a Class E Felony for Resisting Arrest for a Felony; and a misdemeanor for assault. Bond was set at $25,000 cash or surety.
An initial hearing for the accused is pending at Pettis County Circuit Court.
