Two Odessa men have been charged with felonies after a traffic stop resulted in their alleged possession of drugs and a loaded firearm recently in Lafayette County.
A probable cause statement says Odessa Police officers reportedly conducted a stop on a vehicle for no tail lights and movement violations on Old Highway 40 in the early morning hours of October 2. Officers spoke with the driver, 26-year-old Nicolas Johns, and passenger, 27-year-old Tyler Stockton, and reportedly noticed suspicious activity.
Officers reportedly let Stockton leave the scene after he stated he had no possessions in the vehicle and wanted to leave on foot. However, after a search of the vehicle, officers found a back pack containing Stockton’s photo ID, a plastic bag containing 10 grams of methamphetamine and a controlled prescription medication. Johns was arrested after officers found more methamphetamine, a loaded handgun and two boxes of ammunition within the vehicle.
Online court documents say warrants have been issued and Johns and Stockton are each charged with Class D Felonies for Possession of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and two drug-related misdemeanors. Stockton also was charged with an additional Class D Felony for Possession of a Controlled Substance. Bond for each subject has not been set.
An initial hearing for each subject is pending at Lafayette County Circuit Court.
