A Sedalia resident is facing felony charges after he allegedly ingested controlled pills during a high-speed chase in Pettis County.
A probable-cause statement says a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle that was speeding on September 29. However, the vehicle never stopped and led the trooper on a pursuit on a couple of different gravel roads, causing the trooper to lose sight of the suspect vehicle. The trooper located the vehicle again and took the driver into custody. During questioning, the trooper says 28-year-old Levi Grant Markes lapsed in and out of consciousness and asked Markes if he had ingested anything during the pursuit. Markes reportedly told the trooper he had- more than five Xanax and Oxycodone pills. An ambulance was called and transported Markes to Bothwell Hospital for treatment. A search of the vehicle reportedly rendered some other drug-related items.
According to online court documents, Markes has been charged with two counts of a Class E Felony for Tampering with Physical Evidence in a Felony Prosecution; as well as a drug-related and two driving-related misdemeanors.
Markes’ initial hearing at Pettis County Circuit Court is pending.
