Police officers were toned out to a report of an unknown male on Marshall High School property on Wednesday, October 3.
According to a news release from Superintendent Dr. Carol Maher, at approximately 3:10 p.m., school officials and parents of students reported an unknown adult male on school property at the athletic complex and alerted the police department.
The unknown male reportedly appeared to be lost and had previously entered the school through the south doors where he remained in the building for about five minutes, then was escorted from the building to the south parking lot. He was under surveillance at all times and students were never in any type of danger as school had been dismissed at 12:30 p.m.
Marshall Police officers arrived at the athletic complex at approximately 3:15 p.m. and arrested the unknown male for trespassing. During this time, students at the soccer field were moved to a nearby area as a precautionary measure.
Normally, school doors are locked when students are in the building, but classes had been dismissed at 12:30 p.m. The doors were unlocked to provide easier access to the building for teachers as they were conducting professional development activities. Administrators will be reviewing this practice to ensure all safety measures are followed for staff, as well as for students.
Marshall Public Schools would like to thank the parents, law enforcement and community members for their effort in working together with the school district to provide a safe and secure setting for the students.
