A Higginsville man charged with a felony for an alleged incident of causing harm to a woman and infant recently has his arraignment hearing scheduled later this month in Lafayette County.
A probable-cause statement says Lafayette County deputies responded to an area hospital to speak with a female victim who stated she was assaulted by 32-year-old John Rechterman at a residence in Higginsville on October 1.
The victim stated Rechterman allegedly struck her with an open hand multiple times and made verbal threats to kill her. The victim added she was trying to leave the residence with her infant child, where Rechterman allegedly went to shove her, but struck the infant instead. The infant’s face reportedly hit a wood cabinet. Deputies reportedly noticed the female victim sustained scratches and hand prints on her body and the infant had a bruise around the left eye.
Online court documents say Rechterman has been charged with a Class E Felony for Domestic Assault in the Third Degree and two domestic assault misdemeanors. Bond has been set at $10,000 cash or surety.
An arraignment hearing for Rechterman has been scheduled at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, October 17, at Lafayette County Circuit Court.
