A Coffeyville, Kansas, resident who was charged with two counts of a felony for allegedly stealing items from a museum in Pettis County and selling some of them appeared in court last week.
According to a probable-cause statement, 38-year-old Terry Cockrell stole items– including some from the Civil War and World War II eras– from the Pettis County Museum in Sedalia. The items were estimated to be worth nearly $34,000.
According to online documents, Cockrell was charged with two counts of a Class D Felony for Stealing of $750 or More.
After he initially pleaded not guilty during a hearing on June 4, he pleaded guilty to one felony count during a hearing on October 1. The court sentenced Cockrell to seven years in the Department of Corrections. However, the sentence was suspended, and Cockrell has been placed on five years of supervised probation. He also has been ordered to pay court costs of $2,950 at a rate of $50 per month.
