Two Fortuna, California, residents are facing felony drug charges after a traffic stop on I-70 revealed more than 100 pounds of marijuana to be in their truck on Monday, October 22.
According to a probable-cause statement, during a search, authorities say they found four large duffel bags in the truck bed that contained 112 individually-wrapped bundles of marijuana, weighing approximately one pound each. The passenger in the vehicle, Daniel Dominguez Silva, reportedly also is an undocumented foreign national.
Online court documents say warrants have been issued and the driver- Rosa Maria Velasco Maldonado- and Silva each has been charged with Class C Felonies for Trafficking Drugs in the Second Degree and Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Except 35 Grams or Less of Marijuana or Synthetic Cannabinoid. Silva also has been charged with a Class C Felony for Illegal Reentry. Bond for each subject has been set at $75,000 cash or surety.
An initial hearing for each of the accused at Cooper County Circuit Court is pending.
