Two women were killed in a head-on traffic crash in Lafayette County on Tuesday.
According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the head-on collision occurred as a westbound vehicle, driven by 53-year-old Dana Smith, of Kansas City, reportedly crossed the center line and into the path of an eastbound vehicle, driven by 27-year-old Ashlee Watson, of Claycomo. Upon impact, both vehicles rotated counter-clockwise and came to a rest blocking the roadway.
Watson and Smith reportedly were pronounced deceased at the scene at 11:30 p.m. by the Lafayette County Coroner. A passenger in Watson’s vehicle, 30-year-old Trevor Tackett, of Trimble, reportedly was transported by helicopter to Truman Medical Center in Kansas City for treatment of serious injures.
The crash happened at about 11:20 p.m. on U.S. Highway 24, just west of Appletree Lane.
