The Missouri Department of Conservation said over 13,500 deer were harvested during the early portion of the youth firearm season that was held this past weekend.
According to a news release, preliminary data from MDC shows that hunters ages six through 15 harvested 13,560 deer during the youth firearm season held on October 27 and 28. Top counties for the early youth portion were Howell with 350, Osage with 316, and Franklin with 263 deer checked. Last year’s harvest total for the early youth portion was 17,412.
The deer harvest totals for counties in the KMMO listening area are as follows: Cooper was the top county with 120 deer check, followed by Pettis with 108, Chariton and Howard each with 100, Carroll with 89, Saline with 87 and Lafayette with 49 deer checked.

Archery deer hunting continues through November 9 and again from November 21 through January 15, 2019. Firearm season is scheduled to be held from November 10-20. That will be followed by the late youth portion of firearms deer season on November 23-25. The antlerless portion of firearms deer season runs November 30 through December 2. Lastly, the alternative methods portion will run December 22 through January 1, 2019.
