A 76-year-old Missouri man’s heroic acts saved three fishermen this year along the Grand River near Clinton. Lonnie Buddy Murrell, of Warsaw, says he was crappie fishing in May when he heard someone yell for help.

The Army Corps of Engineers has presented Murrell with an “Act of Heroism” award for his efforts. He says the men were not wearing life jackets.
This was Murrell’s third time helping to rescue people while out fishing.
