A Waynesburg, Kentucky, man who was found in possession of 10 pounds of methamphetamine in Lafayette County in 2015 was found guilty by a federal trial jury on Wednesday, October 31.
According to a news release, 46-year-old Kevin Ray Wilson was found guilty of participating in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.
On May 19, 2015, Wilson was driving on I-70 near Highway H in Lafayette County, where a deputy notice a traffic violation and the vehicle had two different license plates. During a warranted search of the vehicle, the deputy discovered a blanket that was covering a spare tire which was deflated and off the rim. The rim of the tire was noticed to have large gouges and scrape marks along the outer edge. The deputy used a knife to cut into the tire and located a blue nylon bag containing the methamphetamine. The deputy also found $2,900 under the front seat, and Wilson had $1,600 on his person at the time of his arrest.
Following the presentation of evidence, the jury in the U.S. District Court in Kansas City deliberated for less than three hours before returning the guilty verdict to U.S. District Judge Stephen Bough.
Wilson reportedly is subject to a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in federal prison without parole, and possibly up to a life sentence without parole. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled after the completion of a presentence investigation by the United States Probation Office.
The case was investigated by the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
