The Saline County Commission heard a report about a tax-incentive program designed to help with investing in low-income communities during its meeting on Thursday, November 1.
Marshall-Saline Development Corporation Executive Director Stan Moore details a meeting that was held recently with Congressman Emanuel Cleaver about the Opportunity Zone Program.

Moore said some areas were approved and details the area within Marshall which was approved.

According to a news release, an Opportunity Zone is defined as an economically-distressed community or area where new investments, under certain conditions, may be eligible for preferential tax treatment.
