On August 1, a Slater man who has been charged with sex-related felonies involving a juvenile, appeared in court while in custody for his preliminary hearing, and the court found probable cause and his case was bound over to Division 4.
Online court documents say Larry Wayne Powers, who is now 52 years old, has been charged with a Class E Felony for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender and two counts of an Unclassified Felony for Sodomy or Attempted Sodomy in the First Degree. Bond has been set at $200,000 cash only, with several conditions. His lawyer’s motion for bond reduction was denied by the court on June 27.
A probable-cause statement says Powers reportedly admitted to authorities he failed to provide proper sex-offender registration information, including his use of multiple social-media sites to communicate with juveniles. Powers also reportedly detailed sexual encounters with a 15-year-old, and admitted he received nude photos from the victim on an unregistered phone in February and March 2018.
A case review for Powers, who entered a plea of not guilty during his arraignment hearing on August 13, is set for 9 a.m. on Tuesday, November 13, at Saline County Circuit Court.
